"Robin's Butterfly" 24x24 Encaustic portrait and "Whimsey" Encaustic Still Life Janet Amundson-Splidsboel

Sold
Being a Portland Trailblazer fan, I am fascinated by player Robin Lopez's hair.  It's his hair that inspired me to paint "Robin's Butterfly".  No classical music needed.  24"x24" Encaustic, painted entirely with layers of molten, pigmented beeswax.

Below is "Whimsey", the 26"x22" encaustic painting I donated and which sold at the 2014 Cascade Aids Project (CAP) Auction last weekend.  It's a party atmosphere with hundreds in attendance, and so much fun.  If you're an artist and haven't done so, you might want to donate a piece next year and enjoy the party.

  1. Hi Janet! Great work. I am working in a similar fashion, more of an odalisque nude style, but all in encaustic. Experimented successfully with painting a pastel in deli paper, then burnished it to prepped panel. Carefully pulling off the paper left me with a perfect dace, and then I used the ghost image as a collage on another board. Nice to see someone else doing realism in encaustic!

    1. Thanks, Vicki. Sounds like you experiment a lot, I like to do that, too. Never know when we'll get a result that is new and fresh. Do you have a site?
