This is the current 36"x24" encaustic painting I am working on. The propane torch is the main tool I use to fuse each new layer of pigmented beeswax to the underneath layer. The molten, pigmented beeswax is applied with bristle paintbrushes, followed by the fusing of the wax with the torch. At this stage the painting is about 50% completed and has some 15 layers of wax. -Janet Amundson-Splidsboel

Encaustic Demo Large Figurative Encaustic
